Sparco and “Space” suits

19 marzo 2012 posted by: Federico Fattori

How many uses are there for a fire-proof racing suit?
Would you put space missions on the list?
Well, now you can.

For some years now, Sparco has been supplying technical clothing for the scientists, astronauts and space tourists that train at Spaceland, the world’s first-ever privately-funded zero-g, lunar and Martian space flight research centre.

Spaceland is the only place you can get certificates officially qualifying you as an astronaut through training courses just like the ones they do at NASA, and then get to fly into space.
The courses are held at the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral and at the European Space Center.

Check out the schedule at www.spaceland.it and catch the next training missions “on the fly”!

So, want to be a space pilot?
If you’ve got a Sparco suit you’re already half way there.

Ergo: the new Sparco super-suit

We told you there was something new in the pipeline and here it is: the new Ergo suit, ready to race more safely and comfortably than ever.

The Ergo is a new ergonomic suit developed to offer maximum comfort during the race. It was designed directly on a driver in the driving position, sitting in a car or kart, which means there’s no excess fabric especially in the abdominal zone, and what’s more, without the zip on the chest like a traditional suit, there’s more space for sponsors logos, meaning you can customise it even more.

The Ergo suit comes in three versions:
Ergo M-9F, top of the range
Ergo M-5, entry level, always fireproof
Ergo K-9F, top range kart

Perfect for any race, safe, good-looking and above all comfortable. This is Sparco’s new suit.

Ready to give it a try?

How does a personalised suit take shape?

27 maggio 2011 posted by: Federico Fattori

There are various ways we can make a personalised suit. Drivers can make their own sketches with the logos they want to apply and send it to us, or follow the simple instructions we provide.

A while back we got his photo of a Tyrolese costume from KTM Austria with the question: “can you make one like this?”

Francesca, our stylist, and Nadia, who handles the embroidery, took a good long look at it and got down to work.

Using the photo, Francesca adapted it and developed the model for the suit based on an x-light.

After this came Nadia’s turn to study the embroideries. With lots or patience and perseverance, Nadia hand embroidered the designs full size and sent them to the embroidery machinist who made the tapes, and then they stitched it all together.

And this is the result!

As you can see, there’s nothing Sparco can’t do.
Anyone out there got any more challenges for us?

The customized suit

The suit is an indispensable accessory for safety, but it’s also the image of the driver and the team.
With Sparco and its sales network customizing your suit is quick and easy.

We only need three things:
- the type of model
- the measurements (if made-to-measure)
- the design of the figure with the logos, the dimensions and position attached

For a made-to-measure suit, you can download the form in the specific section for taking your measurements.
You can design the suit yourself, or choose the design from the catalogue and change it to meet your needs.
Send all this to your nearest Sparco dealer, that you can find in the store locator.

In just a few hours you’ll get an e-mail with a cost quotation.

Normally we can deliver a suit in about 4-5 weeks, but if you’re in a hurry, in your request you can ask for the “Fast Track” service, which means you can get your suit in just 5 working days.
Then for perfectionists there’s the “ready-to-race” kit for customizing gloves and boots to match your suit.

So if you’ve been thinking about getting a customized suit for a while, try asking Sparco first. It’s easy, quick and the quotation is free.

A stylist in Sparco

Meet Francesca, our stylist!
What’s a stylist doing at Sparco? Transforming the suits into portraits of the driver who wear them (for safety and comfort).

I met up with her and she told me a couple of things about her job. Here’s what struck me most about it:
- There are two options: either the customer sends a drawing that Francesca perfects, adapting it to the special Sparco look, or she draws up a few ideas for the customer, giving them a series of choices.
- The most creative ideas come from Sparco USA
From what it seems the Americans are the ones with the most audacious ideas, and send in the weirdest sketches. But even a classic design has its finer points.
- You can do practically anything, there aren’t any particular technical limitations.
After she’s checked the feasibility of the requests she gets, Francesca sends the drawing into production along with a technical data sheet.
In some cases, customers ask for some really elaborate stuff, and so the work gets more expensive. But the satisfaction of having a custom made suit to admire yourself in is worth the extra cost.
- Francesca has a real passion for fashion. She went to a fashion school and then specialised in Fashion and Costume Design at the European Institute of Design. She really loves her job and Sparco welcomed her in with open arms.
